My case is really different, I´m not an English native speaker and my background is not relative to math, so, my starting point was really low.

420 15/12/2013 Official software

2 months study program: 01/01/2014 I started with magoosh / OG 13th edition
490 29/01 Official software
490 09/02 Magoosh
580 09/02 Kaplan
580 12/02 Magoosh
- Economist Tutor review / Manhattan books
630 14/02 Manhattan
570 24/02 Official software
650 05/03 Princeton :P

My exam is in two days (08/03) and the scored I need is between 630 and 650, but I still have time to retake the test before the application deadline. Do you think if I give myself another moth I could break the 700? :(

Hi bb!
I'm taking the GMAT on 14th March. I'm targeting a 730+ score. My MGMAT CAT score's are on an average 720 and last gmat prep test score was 750.
In quants Gmatclub tests have helped a LOT. I'm scoring much better than before, but I have to take the apparant progress with a pinch of salt since I found that there were many more 600 level questions as compared to my previous tests. Should I reset the Question Pool?

When the answer its unclear, what I do is P.O.E process of elimination. First the answers that relate to a detail in the passage and then the assumptions. That way is easier to spot the inference.

Finally, during the note-taking use lines and arrows to connect the cause-effect relationships between the elements, so you don`t get misguided.

It`s easier this way.

I was supposed to take the exam on March 6 but experienced a technical issue at the test center on the test day.

Have not gotten reply from customer service so far about the rescheduled appointment.

Before the next test day, i think i'll keep practicing 5 or more questions from each question type and review incorrect questions.

I took the test in Taipei, Taiwan by the way. :)

If you have taken a lot of quizzes and tests, you may but usually you would not have to....

Quote:
Also from MGMAT CAT analysis I found that of the questions i got wrong in CR and RC, 80% were Inference type. (In RC all the questions I got wrong were Inference type) (In CR I got very few the questions wrong but of them 50% were Inference type). It's obvious these questions are my weakness. What do you suggest I do? Should I start targeted practice? Could you suggest a source?

Finally, I can't thank you enough for creating this website. It helps thousands of people throughout the world many of whom don't have access to the best guidance. But gmatclub makes up for it! :)

Regards,
Aninda

Thank you - Inference, assumptions, and scope are very important elements of the CR and RC questions. I would suggest trying to get as close as you can to the official source (official questions) - if you have already taken your GMAT Prep, you can find a number of inference questions using tags in the forum - e.g. here are CR Inference questions from the GMAT Prep: search.php?search_tags=all&selected_search_tags%5B%5D=120&selected_search_tags%5B%5D=169 and here: search.php?search_tags=all&selected_search_tags%5B%5D=120&selected_search_tags%5B%5D=204

Also, there are collections of GMAT Prep questions that have been discovered: the-most-comprehensive-collection-of-everything-official-cr-140375.html

I'm taking the test on March 24th. Been studying for quite a few months, since September or October...suffice it to say that it will feel good to be done in a couple weeks!

As far as prep goes, I've used MGMAT for all quant stuff (including advanced quant) and sentence correction. I also used Jeff Sackmann's quant book for extra practice. Went with PowerScore for CR. Didn't use much for RC. I also tried Aristotle for SC, wasn't overly impressed with it though. For CATs, I did the six MGMAT tests, nine quant tests from GMATClub, and one of the GMAT Prep tests. Scores below:

MGMAT 1: 740 (Q47/V44)
MGMAT 2: 710 (Q48/V39)
MGMAT 3: 730 (Q45/V45)
MGMAT 4: 740 (Q47/V45)
MGMAT 5: 780 (Q51/V45)
MGMAT 6: 780 (Q51/V45)
GMATClub: Q47 on first, Q51 on the rest
GMAT Prep 1: 770 (Q50/V47)

With the remaining 2.5 weeks, I'm just focusing on reviewing and making sure I don't burn out. I'm studying an hour or two a day, mostly reviewing tricky quant questions. I've only missed four verbal questions on each of the last three exams, so I don't know there's much left to do for that...I have been reading a lot more in my free time, which probably can't hurt. (The reading material has mostly been about B- school applications and post-MBA career choices...helps remind me that regardless of how I do on the exam, it's only one small part of a much larger career trajectory.) I'll be taking another GMAT Prep CAT or two (not sure if I'll buy the exam pack), and maybe another few GMATClub exams.

After that, I'll take the test and that'll be that. I could not have possibly worked harder for this, so I'll come out of the test with my head held high. It's only one part of the application, and while I hope and expect to do well on the exam, I realize that, in the end, it's probably not going to make or break my application. So I'm just going to give it all I've got and let the chips fall where they may.

Thanks again to GMATClub for everything. These forums have made what is inherently an uncomfortable process a lot more bearable.

Hi Gmatsilvia!

Looks like you have been able to improve about 150-200 points - that's really good!!!! Very impressive job!
I have to say improving 300 points is tough and very few have done it. But they did. Take a look at a few of these debriefs to get some ideas and inspiration - you can definitely do it! It may take a little while (depending on time and what your demons are):

I'm taking it tomorrow at 9 am. I have been studying for about 3 months using MGMAT guides and OG 12. I've been averaging about a 700. The weird thing is that I'm about 60-70 percentile on math and around 80-90 percentile on English so I have been focusing on math but still find it difficult. I am just hoping to break 700.

Just got back from the test. Pretty much got what I expected. Q43 V42 and IR 8 for a 700. Not sure if it's worth re taking but definitely could use some improvement on my math. I definitely owe a lot to this community.

Sure. I am a native English speaker so I'm sure I have an advantage. I used MGMAT study guides. It was really the little things that may sound silly that helped me a lot. For example: taking notes during RC and CR, and not comprehensive notes. I don't even use these notes to look back on, I just use them to keep track of what the reading is trying to say. Also read the first question for reading comprehension before you read the passage. For tricky sentence corrections just write out ABCDE and cross out the ones you know are wrong until you find the best answer. Be sure to know the common things tested on sentence correction - plural/singular verbs, parallelism, idioms, etc. Also be sure you are not changing the meaning of the sentence. I may be forgetting other things that helped me but feel free to ask me any questions.

Somebody ask me about my strategy to go from 420 to 600 in two months, and I decided to post a resume but I will be posting something better later.

First month: It was a lot of hard work with Magoosh and the OG 13, they have a one month plan in their blog but I can't post the link I don't know why just look it up in google

The second moth: After I finish all the PS and SC I had in Magoosh and the OG 13 (my weak points), I did all the SC in the OG verbal review, the free trial Economics Tutor and went through half the Manhattan Word Problems book.

At the end I landed 600, I got greedy in math... things got harder and longer and didn't had a lot of time at the end. Right now, I'm taking some days off while I study for the TOEFL and decide if I'm retaking it or not (I don't need 700's) and if I do what need to change to gain those 50-70 points.

Good luck and remember we need to practice a lot but the most important is the quality, I saw every single explanation video in Magoosh even if a had the problem right, that's how I learned so fast.

In youtube type Magoosh OG problems, or OG problem solving... and you'll find the video explanations
