Key to score high in verbal section depends on which topic and book you pick first to start verbal section. No matter which course you are doing but you must read grammar part at-least once before going to sentence correction books, either you are going to do your preparation from MGMAT, Veritas or any other guides you must read basic grammar rules at-least once because it is always good to pay some attention where you might feel over confidence. GMAT tests your English but actually they try to exploit mistakes you do in regular spoken English, Even if you are Native English Speaker.
Do not go and grab your childhood books instead you have very good option of Gmat Club Grammar Book, which covers almost everything which should be repeated before going to sentence correction part.
My Suggested strategy for verbal section
GMAT Fiction books (from the day 1 when you start doing GMAT preparation, read few pages before going to sleep every day)
Gmat Club Grammar Book ( First book before starting verbal section)
A complete refresher of grammar (must for non-native speakers)
GMAT sentence correction books and strategies ( MGMAT, Veritas and EGMAT Suggested)
It is good to start sentence correction first because it depends more on grammar where other sections depend on practice and techniques.
GMAT Critical Reading books and Strategies (MGMAT and Veritas suggested)
This is considered as a easiest part if you have good reading and understanding skills.
GMAT Reading Comprehension books and strategies (MGMAT and Veritas suggested)
toughest part of verbal section, where practice, practice and practice is the only key. your time management skills must be good to score good in this part.
