Hello wonderful people of GMAT Club forum. I am extremely happy today to report that I took the GMAT today in the morning and scored 720 with Q49 V39 as my scores. I don't know what to say because I am simply ecstatic. Although I know its not an exceptional score and tons of people here and otherwise have scored more thant that, I feel happy because I was expecting not more than 680. Working full time and with a few more extra curricular activities, I managed about 4 months of time for the preparation. To start off, I purchased the OG 13 and took the diagnostic test and I was devastated quite like bad guys get beaten up by Popeye when they mess with his lady love. So I read through a lot of topics on this website and then realized that I cannot randomize anything and need a study pattern or a plan, whatever you want to call it.
The study materials I used are as follows:
1. Verbal
- OG 13
-
MGMAT RC, SC, and CR
- Kaplan Review 2015
2. Quant
- OG 13
- Kaplan Review 2015
-
MGMAT Number Properties, Word Problems, Geometry, Equations, Inequalities
Basically I used these materials as the bibles to primarily get the fundamentals right and get the strategy correct. I did go through a lot of forums where problems are published but I realized that the solutions are not always correct. In order to get more questions, I did not want to sacrifice and thorough and consistent understanding of fundamentals. Quality over Quantity is what I swear by. But to practice more questions, I used the Kaplan and
MGMAT tests and quizzes by paying for the tests.
Method
I started off with Quant followed by Verbal and Revising Quant and Verbal Intermittently till the day of the tests. How? Please read on
Week Study Pattern: Monday to Friday 2 hours after work (sometimes 1 hour if I was exhausted): Study 1 topic everyday and solve all possible problems from Kaplan, OG and
MGMAT. Study for 4-5 hours on a weekend. This continued for 4 weeks or so till I accumulated what the heck GMAT was about.
After 4 weeks, every weekend was dedicated to tests whereas weekdays were study days. I paid for the Kaplan and
MGMAT Tests along with the GMAT Prep tests and other free tests available online. So, I had the availability of 6 weekends (2 tests per week) for my test days. This followed for 4 weeks.
Once I started the tests and kept studying regularly, I realized my weaknesses and hence was easier to work on them. Then, I focused on working on the errors I am making in this tests and by going through the explanations, I could see and follow the trend of the kind of questions that will or do regularly feature in the GMAT. Every few weeks, I used to resolve the problems which I solved incorrectly. This followed continuously and there was only one break of three days where I was outstation enjoying with my friends and drinking heavily :D I am not sure if this should be a part of everybody's plan, but a break certainly should and it helps you rejuvenate your mind and body both.
Last week, I only focused on the trends of problems, the ways in which problems can be made twisted and restudied the fundamentals. I guess this is it
Good Luck to all of you and wish you get much more than 720.
