I'm really worried because i have barely 2 months left for my GMAT exam (16th of October) and I am not able to push my score up in the
Manhattan GMAT Mocks.
Here's the List of
MGMAT Mock Scores:
MGMAT1 : 620 (Q39, v35) - Sometime in April
MGMAT2 : 680 (Q45, V37) - June
MGMAT3 : 680 (Q44, V38) - July
MGMAT4 : 680 (Q45, V37) - Today
In August I got verities prep mocks with the GMATclub premium membership but after scoring 730 in mocks there, i realised that the veritasprep mocks either inflate the score a little bit or focus on different types of problems. Because of which I reverted to
MGMAT, but score a 680 yet again.
As I mentioned earlier, my exam date in 16th of October and I can't seem to break the 700 barrier in
MGMAT mocks. I've tried to talk to a lot of people about their study strategies, also I tend to get an amazing strike rate when i'm doing practice (that too timed) but for some reason I just can't touch 700 in mocks. This is so frustrating. I really need a suggestions at this point.
Please help me.
Hi Gaurav,
I think the way you're looking at mocks is wrong. You're looking at Manhattan mocks as a target, and trying to achieve high scores in that. However, your real aim should be to give these mocks, try to analyse them, and find out your weak areas and issues with timing. Your scores in
MGMAT are good, and at your current level you can easily score 720+ in the real GMAT (provided you carry the same skill sets and temperament to the real exam). However, that is not the main point. The main point is that you should use the next 2 months till your GMAT to fine tune your weaknesses, and keep your strength areas at their peak. Remember, it is very easy to get carried away with the challenge to score well in mocks, and lose sight of the real goal of giving mocks.
Now as far as the difficulty level of different mocks go, MGMATs are quite tough. The quants section is unnecessarily tough & lengthy, and the verbal section does not represent the real GMAT. BUT, like I said, you should use MGMATs to test your timing strategies and figuring out your weak areas.
Veritas Prep mocks are actually more representative of the real GMAT. They have questions that resemble the real GMAT questions more closely, and they also use the same scoring algorithm as the real GMAT. So your high scores in Veritas Prep mocks are not inflated, but actually a decent indicator of your current level.
Finally, the only mocks that give you the best indication of your scoring level are the GMAT prep mocks. If you really want to get an idea of your level, you should give the GMAT prep mocks.
All the best!
