Which US-business schools provide scholarship with Gmat 550 score?

Question

Hi to all. I thought I could score more than 650 in gmat but the reality is different. I am getting 500 to 550 in a mock test. So, Plan A is to apply in normal US b-school and Plan B is to think of getting 650 and apply in top 50 US b-school. Taking Plan A in consideration for now. Also, I haven't given my real test yet but will be giving my real test after few weeks.

Entrepreneur
Age- 33
Gmat expectation :550
Work Experience: More than 8 years
B.Com (pass) Delhi University- 52%
Masters in Economics - 48%( My university grading is tough)

I have few questions regarding scholarships and assistantships:

1. With the above score, can I get scholarship in any US b-school ? I don't want to go to the high ranking b-school.

2. Which university in rank top 100 to 200 gives preference to entrepreneurs?

Hi Verve:

With respect to your first question - based on my experiences as an admissions consultant (and seeing which of my clients get $$$) -

1 - the general rule is this, the lessor ranked a school (the worse a school's ranking), the more likely they are to give out money.

2 - if you absolutely have to have a full ride to come to school in the US from India, and with a 550, you are going to want to apply to schools ranked from about 35 to 50+ ...

There are no schools in this range that I can think of that give preference to entrepreneurs - perhaps Babson, but that would be about it. Most programs in this range absolutely focus on your "hireability" upon graduation. Entrepreneurs are not the most desirable to corporate employers at face value. However, I don't know what you specifically constitutes "entrepreneur" in your case.

To elaborate my my entrepreneurship background. I am doing clothing business for last 7 years and before that I am into fast moving consumer goods business. I might not be very helpful to corporate people but I certainly bring a lot of experience and new ideas in the classroom.

I think you are going to have to go pretty far down the list of rankings to find someone who will give a full scholarship to a student who received a 550 on the GMAT. Think about it, most schools will only give money to maybe the top 10 per cent of their class. So even schools that have an average GMAT around 550, their will still be plenty of students applying there who have scored 650 or better. My recommendation would be to work on your GMAT score. If you can bump it up into the 600s you will have way more flexibility.
