If all the dough is used and the cookies are only going to consist of 20% chocolate

Then the 36 ounces of dough ————> corresponds to the other 80% that will make up the cookies

80% —————-> 36 oz. dough

*(1/4)
___________

20% —————> (1/4) * 36 = 9 oz. of cookies

15 - 9 = 6 oz remain

6

Bunuel wont he use 20% of 15 ounces= 3 ounces of chocolate and will be left with 12 ounces of chocolate? Its dumb of me that I cant get the question but please help

Bunuel
Uncle Bruce is baking chocolate chip cookies. He has 36 ounces of dough (with no chocolate) and 15 ounces of chocolate. How much chocolate is left over if he uses all the dough but only wants the cookies to consist of 20% chocolate?

(A) 3
(B) 6
(C) 7.2
(D) 7.8
(E) 9

Kudos for a correct solution.

Hi Bhavika468,

I understand your confusion with this question. The prompt does NOT state that 20% of the chocolate must be used; the prompt tells us that the cookies are "20% chocolate" - meaning that the weight of each cookie (in ounces) is 20% chocolate and 80% dough. This creates a ratio of 20:80 = 1:4 of chocolate to dough per cookie. In other words, for every 4 ounces of dough that are used, we will use 1 ounce of chocolate. From here, you can do the rest of the work with some basic Arithmetic.
