Hi everyone,
I wanted to get some feedback on what I am doing wrong in terms of my study routine. Just to let you guys know, I have recently purchased and I am following the
Magoosh program.
Here is my schedule -
Spend 1- 1.5 hours reviewing past material: (math)
In the case of the last two days, I have been reviewing questions in the exponent section to make sure I understood all the major rules.
I would usually create a custom practice session reviewing flagged questions. I would also practice some new questions.
Spend 1- 1.5 hours going over a new subject: (math)
I would study a new subject. In this case, I have begun working on the properties of integers section. Once again, I have chosen not to focus so much on volume of questions answered but rather on my quality of understanding. For example, I only answered 3 questions today under this section and reviewed them as thoroughly as I could.
Spend 1- 1.5 hours going over a new subject in sentence correction.
Total: 3- 4 hours.
My goal is to ensure that I have a solid understanding of at least 5- 10 math subjects and 5- 10 sentence correction subjects prior to my 2nd GMAT attempt in late July. I plan to repeat the same study structure over the next 30 days or so.
My target is at least a 680 and if possible 700+. I think this is doable if I can bring my quant performance to either the 60th or 70th percentile and ensure that my verbal score does not falter.
In addition to the practice that I do above, I also take notes on key concepts that I learn in the video lessons and essentially try to create a toolbox of tricks and techniques that I could apply.
Results so far:
I attempted a practice test yesterday and I have to say the results were very disappointing. I attempted a
Manhattan GMAT prep test that I had purchased and the quant section came out at the 40th percentile. This is essentially unchanged from when I first started studying for the GMAT back in November of 2015.
My recognition of the questions remains very muddled and I am unable to perform.
As I mentioned above, I have made it a point to focus on different categories of math problems such as properties of integers, rate problems etc. However, every time I attempt a practice test, the result is disappointing.
I am just wondering what I could do differently? or what I am doing incorrectly?
