In all other options, there is the possibility of achieving a value equal to 'c' which is the median. In A, the value (a+c)/2<c as a and c are distinct integers.

Clearly c is the median here, now (a + c)/2 can only be = c iff a=c, but a, b, c,d and e are distinct +ve I, so not possible.
