I would pick the first question that doesn't have "literally" in it out of principle.

Why can't the answer be A? The action if being written for an age of eloquent prose and poetic narration can be compared with "As" Whereas C compares the noun classics.
Please help me understand where I am wrong.

Thanks.

Can anyone please help with this question? How is A incorrect? Perhaps there is some gap in my understanding. Will be great if someone can explain how C is the correct answer here.

OPTIONS D & E can be dumped easily.

A: Verb error
As literally all the popular classics were (written), Robinson Crusoe was written for an age of eloquent prose and poetic narration.

B: The intended meaning creates an error as it equates two unequal objects.
As (it is the case) with literally all of the popular classics, Robinson Crusoe was written for an age of eloquent prose and poetic narration.

'Robinson Crusoe' is made parallel to 'the case with literally all of the popular classics'. Ambiguous meaning.

C: Compares 'all of the popular classics' and 'Robinson Crusoe'
No error.

First of all the sentence is trying to point out similarity and not compare, So the use of like is the ideal.
Secondly, the sentence is between All Popular Classics and Robinson Crusoe and not between the writing styles or any other feature.
Let me explain with an example:
Like John, Steve is also a genius.

If one had written As John is, Steve is also a genius. Does it mean that we are comparing the form of John with Steve.Does it make any sense .No, we are actually comparing or in better words pointing out the similarity between John and Steve.

Hence, option C does satisfy all the parameters.

Hope I am able to clarify all the gaps here.

Compare does not necessarily mean differentiating. It also means weighing up or equating.

Could you help me understand if and why you find the following statement correct or incorrect.
As John is, Steve is also a genius.
