Haas organizes information sessions and coffee chats in different cities occasionally. If you live in the bay, they will usually have some in Berkeley or San Francisco. Check their website for upcoming events and it’s a great way to meet current students or recent alumni.
Also, have you looked into a class visit? Haas lets you attend a class as a visitor where you can get the feel or the class environment and talk to students during the breaks. These are probably the best resources to meet students.

I had the same experience from student ambassadors. I'd guess they get a ton of random emails. I had a lot of success going to events and also reaching out to my network - friends of friends of friends type of thing.

Was the student ambassador for EMBA or MBA? I would recommend that you sign up for premium for 30 days (free trial) on Linked In and send INMAIL to Berkeley EMBA alums. But make sure to include detailed questions so that there is some focus as to your questions. Give them the option to speak on the phone or skype for 20 minutes. This is what has worked for me and my clients.
