Hi everyone,
I just came back from my exam with 690 (Q48, V36). I am happy with the score, especially given I am a horrible test-taker and have been scoring much lower than what I have been getting on real exams. Below is my journey for GMAT
1st Official Exam: 620 (Q46, V30 March 28th 2018)I have always wanted to pursue a MBA and have been thinking about taking GMAT, but never really took it seriously until late 2017. My first practice was 620 with
MGMAT and Quant was extremely hard that I couldn't even finish the whole section. Knowing that I have gotten perfect 800 on both SAT I and SAT II Subject Test back in high school, I always considered myself stronger in Quant than in Verbal. But, GMAT Quant was completely different. For the 3-4 months, I studied every day (1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening) and was confident going into test center that I can pull at least +680 as the last mock exam was 710 three days prior to real exam.
However, I came out with 620 on my first official test. I was devastated, yet confident that this was due to test nerves.

8th (Q49, V36) 3/11/2018 - 700 - GMAT Official II
9th (Q49, V38) 3/24/2018 - 710 - GMAT Official III
2nd Official Exam: 610 (Q43, V31) April 27th 2018)10th (Q49, V38) 4/1/2018 - 710 - GMAT Official IV
The first weekend following my first official test, I took another mock exam and got 710. This made me confident that I will be able to score +700s. However, this wasn't the case. I actually got lower score on the 2nd exam and the most frustrating part was I couldn't tell the difference in difficulty level of mock exam when I got 710 and real exam when I got 610. The night I got this score, I had to go get MULTIPLE drinks.
I decided to take a few months off as I was burnt out and couldn't focus on GMAT thereafter. I took a break during the summer (went to Russia to watch World Cup 2018 and spent summer hanging out with my girlfriend). I also got another promotion at work, so the summer 2018 was nothing but great until I faced GMAT again.
3rd Official Exam: 640 (Q48,V30) September 22nd 2018)GMAC #5: 660 (Q49, V32, IR8)
Section Order: Quant - Verbal - IR - AWA
I jumped back into studying for GMAT late July and prepped another six weeks for GMAT. This was when I started logging every questions I got wrong on Quant and reviewed
MGMAT from start to finish again. During this time, I focused more on quality, rather than on quantity. I did not take many tests, as I thought that was a waste of time. Also, it was around this time that I was so stressed out and pressured,
I got both alopecia areata (a patch of hair loss due to stress) and pityriasis rosea (skin rashes due to stress). It was my second time getting alopecia areata (first back in 2015, so knew what it was), but I did not know what the hell pityriasis rosea was (it is skin rashes that come with low immune system/stress and go away after 6-10 weeks). Not only was I stressed out about GMAT, but I was super stressed out about my health. GMAT, dermatologist office, and work were all my August and September.
Took the real exam and got 640. I realized that my verbal has constantly underperformed than what I was getting on practice exams and thought to myself that I was extremely tired during the Verbal section after Quant. I decided to change my section order around this time from Quant-Verbal to Verbal-Quant.
4th Offical Exam: 690 (Q48, V36 October 18th 2018)GMAC #6: 700 (Q47, V38, IR5) - Verbal - Quant - IR- AWA
GMAC #2 (retake): 740 (Q50, V40, IR7)
I decided to change my section order to start off with Verbal, as Verbal is my weakness. I did not prep other than reviewing my error logs and going over two mock exams that I took. I soon realized I was able to pull better with Verbal once I was able to focus more.
Today, I took the exam and came back with 690, which aligns with what I got on GMAC #6. I have always wanted to get +700, but given my goal of applying for part-time programs, 690 should do me enough

.
For those of you who suffer from fatigue, changing section order might help. I was able to focus more and my time management on Verbal was much better. I know I could have gotten +700 if I had gotten the last Quant question right (I was debating between B & D and chose wrong), I am pleased with 690.
I do not intend to re-take GMAT unless I get wait-listed from my part-time programs. But, now it is time for me to refine my essays and wrap up my applications! I cannot thank enough to GMATclub and others on this forum to make the studying less painful. Regardless of my score, I learned a lot from just prepping for GMAT alone. To me, GMAT is the test of persistence and perseverance. I know it is much easier to say than done, but for those who continue to try and put in their best efforts, you will get close to score you desire. This test has nothing to do with your intellectual level, but how devoted you are. Remember not everyone needs +700 to get into their desired program, therefore do not let +700 numbers discourage you.
