I owe a big one to
Experts' Global for my 740 on GMAT. I have been wanting to write this post for a few days now and here I am!
About meIndian woman with 7 years experience; technology background; fine academics, strong co-curriculars, rich global experience. Targeting a mix of Indian and western programs, preferably one year MBA.
Starting the prepFour months ago, I was a total newbie to the world of GMAT and needed complete guidance as well as study material for GMAT preparation. As I had to prepare alongside a demanding job, I knew that I cannot go for typical tutorials or live classes and needed to rely on a videos based, on-demand GMAT course. After a trial of quite a few courses, I was convinced by the program by
Experts' Global.
Study material referredI referred to the
Experts' Global study material, official guides, official mocks, and questions on some selected topics on GMAT Club.
Duration of my prepThe preparation lasted almost 3.5 months while devoting around 3 hours on Monday to Friday and 5-6 hours on Saturday and Sunday. There were one or two gaps of 3-5 days in my prep.
My GMAT attemptsAfter scoring in the range of 750-760 in around 4 back to back
Experts' Global and GMAT Prep mocks, I took the test but succumbed under exam pressure and perform poorly, canceled my score. I was advised by
Experts' Global to take another attempt soon with a more carefree mind. I repeatedly watched their "Final Tips For GMAT" video and it quite helped me attain the correct approach. I knew the problem was not in my preparation but in taking too much exam pressure. Fortunately, I still had a few
Experts' Global's mocks unused and I bought the Exam Pack-1. Over a period of 20 days, I revised everything I had studied, re-solved all the incorrectly solved questions, and tried to maintain a healthy routine- taking proper sleep, performing yoga regularly, and avoiding stress. I had a much calmer second attempt on GMAT and while I think I could have done better, I scored 740 (Q49, V41). My scores in the mocks were 750-760 (Q49-50, V42-43) so I think I should live with losing 10-20 points to exam pressure.
Review for Experts' GlobalI wish to sincerely thank
Experts' Global for their really comprehensive program hosted on a wonderful software platform with really smart and useful tools and features. My entire preparation got really organized through this course and I did not have to worry about finding material, practice questions, or mocks through different resources. Just
Experts' Global's program and the official material was enough.
Firstly, their video lectures are really impactful in that they are really concise and focus on teaching one concept at a time, to great depth, at a very fine pace. I would say
Experts' Global has done a tremendous job in having a vast number of small videos on each topic (rather than one movie-size video), making it really easy to learn the concepts. For example, they have broken Numbers Theory into some 10 smaller concepts and even broken the smaller concepts into really small videos where needed; for instance, "Remainders", an important GMAT topic has been covered in 5-6 small videos covering a different type of remainders question each.
Secondly, their structure of following each short video with an exercise really helps in absorbing the concepts. The quality of questions is par excellent, the user interface is exactly like GMAT's, and every exercise if followed by some very detailed analysis, making it easy to dig deep into your performance and to learn from the errors. The questions come with video explanations, which really help.
Thirdly, the GMAT test series by
Experts' Global is simply superb. My scores in their mocks, total as well as the split, were almost identical to the scores in GMAT Prep (real GMAT score was a bit lower as explained above as only the actual GMAT puts the real exam stress). The quality of their questions is really high and they feel like the GMAT questions.
Experts' Global seems to have taken special care to ensure that all tests include questions from all GMAT concepts so this really makes the mock experience similar to GMAT's and you get to know your level in all different GMAT sections, questions types, topics, and concepts.
Fourthly, the long series of "GMAT Shots" by
Experts' Global really kept me inspired for the GMAT. Their promotional content referred to these shots as "Best Friends" and these short videos were really my best friends throughout the prep as I kept watching them on my phone whenever I could spare a few minutes, at any time in the day. This was a particularly useful tool as these hundreds of small videos made revising the important but easy to forget concepts really easy and interesting.
Fifthly, the sentence correction offering is particularly detailed. While
Experts' Global has done great justice with every section and question type, they have taken extra, extra care of sentence correction as probably this is one area where most candidates struggle the most. Their sentence correction e-books are really thorough, probably the most detailed books one would ever find on sentence correction. Then, the videos are really crisp and focus on a concepts-led, meaning-based approach to solving questions. Practice questions are really good with a fine spread in difficulty and a high number of 700+ questions throughout. Their final stage of prep has several hundred only 700+ questions, which really help in giving your prep, the final punch.
Finally, a special word on the software aspect of the platform. As a developer myself, I can say that this platform has been developed with a lot of effort, interest, planning, care, and skill. While I can pinpoint some small scope of improvement here or there, I know I would be nitpicking. Largely,
Experts' Global's is a world-class software of a serious scale. The user interface is really smooth and easy to navigate and the GMAT's screen for exams and exercises is a wonderful idea as it really makes you solve every question with a GMAT feel. The option to repeat only the incorrect questions is very useful tool and it helped me a lot in my second attempt as I could solve again, only those questions that I had struggled in. The analytics are really cool, giving you an in-depth view of your performance and saving a lot of time. One of the coolest features is that the system identifies your weakest areas in quant as well as verbal- this really inspired me to repeat the relevant videos and plug the gaps in my learning. Various small features such as option to flag particular questions, stick notes on a wall in the system, a timer that signals when you take extra long on a question, some very detailed time management insight, a few extra tabs with extra concepts such as vedic math etc, a set of study plans to choose from as per your requirement etc are each really useful, well thought of tools that really aided my preparation and made it more engaging as well as interesting.
I recommend
Experts' Global. However, I strongly suggest taking the free trial first and judging for yourself, whether the course syncs with you-
https://expertsglobal.com/gmat-preparation-onlineMy key tips about GMAT prep that may help you:1. Do not start the prep with official guide, first nurture concepts.
2. RC is really important; practice it regularly, from the beginning of your prep.
3. Study regularly, avoid gaps of multiple days in your prep; in the two significant gaps I had in my prep, resuming was always difficult and the prep was pulled back significantly.
4. In sentence correction, focus on delving deep into the concepts; the conceptual, meaning-based approach is what can help increase accuracy; the "rules" way is best avoided.
5. Take a high number of full length mocks; solving a small set of questions in a book or exercise is easy; GMAT is a lot about endurance, temperament, and time management- skills that you will develop only by taking full-length tests.
6. Do not expect concepts to stay with you after one round of studying them; keep revising them periodically, particularly the sentence correction concepts and the quant areas that you may be weak in.
Thanks for reading. Good luck.
