Kaplan cat

Question

I tried Kaplan prep 
2,3,4

Cat 2: 49,38
Cat 3: 49,39
Cat 4: 48,39 this time , I didn’t even use a pen or do any calculation in Q ..guessed more than 12 questions

Lol

In general , my performances in Verbal were awful ..I made tons of mistakes ...RC was hopeless

I personally think Kaplan is A joke.. .. way too generous

Well i don't know what goes wrong, but i have taken Kaplan CAT (Quant only) Twice. My score on GMAT prep was Q47 While on Kaplan CAT Q48. I found Kaplan Algorithm better than Veritas'. Veritas Algorithm is too much harsh than GMAT Prep, while kaplan is better than Veritas. I rank Kaplan CATs at no 3 after GMAT Prep and Manhattan and Veritas at no 4. I also found Kaplan User interface as close as to GMAT Prep and questions were also reasonable and representative.

One more thing, You can get a Q48 Score with 12 guessed questions this is Computer Adaptive tests and no. of wrong questions varies a lot.  Finally in my experience Kaplan is not a joke and its CATs are better than Veritas.

I Got Q48 by guessing 8 questions and i got 2 correct from guessed and 6 wrong while overall 11 wrong out of 31. Most of the wrong questions were of 700-level and a few were high medium level.

i guess you've tried veritas ...how did you perform ? i tried only the free cat .. thought its SC was pretty good .

Yes i do have attempted Veritas CAT twice but only quant portion. First time when i had attempted my score on GMAT Prep was Q40, while veritas given me a Q38 And second time my score on GMAT Prep was Q47 while veritas gave me a Q42. My experience with Veritas is not good.

Based on two results above.

1. Veritas' algorithm is not representative.

2. Quality of question (as compared to GMAT Prep) was good  (quality means that what is tested in GMAT Math and how questions are made for testing math and use of the language were all right)

3. Some answer explanations were convincing and some were not.  So a mix of Answer Explanations (It Definitely varies person to person basing on Knowledge of a particular segment of math or Verbal tested in GMAT)

4. Questions setting was good  (by questions setting i mean that how CAT presents DS and PS Questions and type of concept which is being tested in question. Some CATs presents weird setting like continuous 5,6 DS questions then continuous 5,6 PS Questions , there was no such issue).

5. User interface is not at all same as GMAT Prep.  i dislike it very much.

6. Analytics were average.  Not much efficient

7. There were no error or bugs during Test.

Conclusion:

Veritas is good choice after GMAT Prep, Manhattan CATs, and Kaplan CATs. It pay the price fully if you get these CATs via GMAT Club premier membership or via 100 points redeemed on GMAT Club or via 15-20 USD during sale promotion of veritas. But paying full price of 49 USD is not compensated by these tests, if you want to spend 50 dollar then better to spend on GMAT Prep 2 CATs and you can also reset them at least once and can make them 2x2=4 and that 4 CATs are far better than 6 of Veritas. These CATs are good enough for practice and stamina building purpose but not for gauging your GMAT Ability.

One last thing: I am almost done with my verbal prep and hope soon will take Verbal and then complete CATs of Veritas just for comparison purpose with same knowledge, attitude and environment, and will share my experience at GMAT Club.

A couple of weeks ago I tried to see what I can score on Kaplan mock test, but I never was able to run it. Whenever I hit the button "Take test" a wheel starts rolling (kind of showing that a Java is running and about to load) and it never progresses to the actual test. I tried on other browsers (Edge, Firefox, Safari) had same issue, some of the browsers didn't even allow to open the page warning me of that the page is harmful or something like that. What might be the cause?

Hi ForzaInter,

If you tried accessing the CAT with several different browsers, then it's possible that your firewall/anti-virus software is interfering with the CAT. You might also try reaching out to Kaplan's Tech Support to see if they have any recommendations.

In another post, you mentioned scoring 450 on one of the Official CATs; did you attempt to take this Kaplan CAT first? Have you taken any other CATs besides that one Official CAT?

Yeah after unsuccessful attempt with Kaplan I looked for other alternatives and took the one that is being offered by mba dot com. That is the only mock test I took so far.
