Hi bhavik1995,

Since you are having a hard time finishing the verbal section, it’s quite possible that you have yet to fully master GMAT verbal. However, before providing specific advice, I’d like to learn more about your situation with the GMAT. I have some questions:

1) How many times have you taken the actual GMAT? Please list the dates on which you’ve taken the GMAT, your total scores, and your quant, verbal, and IR scores, as well as how you were feeling while taking the tests.

2) How many practice GMATs have you taken? Please list the dates on which you’ve taken any practice GMATs, the total scores, and the quant, verbal, and IR scores, as well as how you were feeling while taking the tests. Also, please tell me where these tests came from (ex: mba.com).

3) Please describe how you have been studying. For how many hours a day and for how many months? What resources have you been using?

4) What is your GMAT score goal?

Once I learn a bit more about you, I can provide some detailed advice.

1) I have taken once. 640 q50 v25 ir6
2) A lot! mba.com , manhattan, gmatclub
3) Normal. Nothing different. 5 hours approx
4) Anything above 720

I'm not able to complete my verbal section on time. Any tips how to speed up?

Which questions are taking you the longest? Analyze a couple of practice tests and see if you can figure that out, first. Here are some things you might notice:

- You're spending a very long time on a small number of hard questions, which is causing you to rush later in the test and get easy questions wrong. In that case, you could gain some points by just being more willing to give up and move on from tough problems. If you're going to get a problem wrong anyways (and we all miss problems on the GMAT!!) - get it wrong quickly, not slowly.
- Or, maybe you're spending a long time on one particular type of problem (CR, RC, or SC). In that case, learn more about that type of problem, and do more practice with easy problems! Try to find a level of problem where you can usually finish the problem within the time limit. Then, work your way up from there.
- Or, maybe you're consistently spending a little too much time on almost every problem, hard and easy. In that case, you might be reading too slowly, and improving your reading skills would be the way to go.

Hi bhavik1995,

Could you provide some more details on exactly what questions you are struggling with in the verbal section? Are you slow in answering all verbal questions or just questions from particular topics?
