GMAT Score (Verbal - 50 Percentile & Quant - 80 percentile).

Question

Hello all fellow GMAT takers,

I am planning to take GMAT in 3 months, and the school that i am going to apply requires Verbal - 50 Percentile & Quant - 80 percentile.

What would be the total score i need in order to meet the requirement?

How many Questions i need to aim on Verbal & Quant sections?

Hello jacqui ... welcome to the community

Q- 80%tile ==> Q50 which is 85%tile .... so Q49 might be ok.
V- 50%tile ==> V28 which is 51%tile .

So combining both it is around 630 or 640 overall.

As  u1983  pointed out, you can see the latest percentiles  here .

Q49 is 74% and Q50 is 85%.
V27 is 46% and V28 is 51%.

Ask your target school to clarify what they mean by a score of 80% in quant, as that would seem to leave only two viable scores (Q50 and Q51).

Actually, i am applying for Master CS program which requires GMAT score.

On the school website, it only states "successful applicants have earned the following scores in the GMAT tests: Verbal - 50th percentile and above/ Quantitative - 80th percentile and above.

The GMAT won't be the only test that a CS program accepts, so that 80% figure is probably more for the GRE. Even that number is probably only indicative, so you might want to write them an email to check what they think about a Q49.

Hi  jacqui  ...... You can check with the school ... what specific score cutoff are they looking for in Quant. Or if Q48-49 are acceptable scores.

Hi jacqui,

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) When are you planning to apply to this Program? What is the application deadline?
2) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

I agree with  AjiteshArun  that you should reach out to your desired program to clarify exactly what they mean regarding the required quant and verbal scores. Also, as others mentioned, since you are just starting out with your GMAT prep, you should  familiarize yourself with the GMAT  and then take an  official GMAT practice exam .
