The probability of rain is 1/2 for every day next week. What is the chance that it rains on at least one day during the workweek (Monday through Friday)?

(A) 1/2
(B) 31/32
(C) 63/64
(D) 127/128
(E) 5/2

P of rain = 1/2

and P of no rain = 1/2

for 5 days P of no rain = (1/2)^5
1/32

or we can say at least 1 day it would rain = 1-1/32 = 31/32 IMO B

Deconstructing the Question
Each weekday has probability \(1/2\) of rain.
There are 5 weekdays (Mon–Fri).
We want the probability that it rains at least once.

Step-by-step
Use the complement:
\(P(\text{at least one rain}) = 1 - P(\text{no rain at all})\)

Probability of no rain on one day:
\(1 - 1/2 = 1/2\)

No rain for all 5 days:
\((1/2)^5 = 1/32\)

Therefore:
\(1 - 1/32 = 31/32\)

Answer: (B) 31/32
