A complete ban on the sale of semi-automatic machine guns will not reduce the incidence of violent crime committed with these guns. People who want to commit violent crimes with these guns will still get them even if they are banned.

The argument above would be most weakened if which of the following statements were true?

A. Banning semi-automatic machine guns will result in an increase in the number of other dangerous weapons purchased.
B. People who do not want to break the law will not buy guns illegally.
C. Fully-automatic machine guns, presently banned, are much more difficult to obtain than other banned weapons, such as switchblade knives.
D. Seeing semi-automatic machine guns legally displayed for sale tends to increase people's inclination to use those weapons to commit violent crimes.
E. The number of accidental gun deaths is lowest in those states with the most restrictive gun control laws.

D is the best weakening the argument that violent crime incidence will not reduce, as if guns are not legally displayed then people will not inclined to use those weapon to commit crimes.

Please Kudos if i helped you

Choice C can be ruled out because it strengthens argument "... will still get them even if they are banned ..." by stating "... presently banned (guns) are much more difficult to obtain ...".
