Could anyone please explain the answer choice C,E?

The paragraph says:

People use aspartame to reduce their caloric intake
Aspartame triggers craving for carbohydrates
Hence the purpose of taking aspartame is defeated

Conclusion:

Carbohydrates have significant caloric value

Choice C is the correct answer.

__________________________________________________________________________________

Choice E : foods that contain aspartame are low in carbohydrates.

This may or may not be true. We do not know.

People use aspartame as a sweetener to cut caloric intake. Use of aspartame eliminates the original sweetener which has high caloric value and thus may be high in carbohydrates. This does not mean that foods that CONTAIN aspartame are low in carbohydrates.

In my opinion, this question is more suitable in assumption category.

The assumption that carbs carry calories is necessary for author to make his statements. If author does not assume this, argument falters.

Ironically, people who use aspartame as a sweetener to reduce their caloric intake could wind up defeating their purpose, since studies show that high levels of aspartame may trigger a craving for carbohydrates by depleting the brain of a chemical that registers carbohydrate satiety.

Which of the following conclusions can most properly be drawn if the statements above are true?

(A) Aspartame can be more hazardous than carbohydrates to people's health.
(B) People who do not use aspartame are not likely to develop a craving for carbohydrates.
(C) The caloric content of foods that are high in carbohydrates is significant.
(D) People tend to prefer sweet foods to those high in carbohydrates.
(E) Food products that contain aspartame are typically low in carbohydrates.

the Conclusion ,it is saying in simple word is that ultimately, who use aspartame as a sweetener will end up consuming high calorie why because aspartame will increase craving of carbs.
pre thinking -->
then why if someone is craving for carbs will gain calories, because carbs are high in calorie.
option C tells exactly the same.
(C) The caloric content of foods that are high in carbohydrates is significant.

option E says
(E) Food products that contain aspartame are typically low in carbohydrates.
it is not an assumption or bridge to connect the logic to reach conclusion,it can strengthen your fact but not an assumption.
