Two weeks back from Kellogg. Yesterday from Booth. I am undecided for now, was reading through the threads on others experiences/perspectives on both schools.

Did you apply for fall or summer at Kellogg?

For booth did you have to ask for an expedited decision or did they just happen to let you know?

Well fortunately its a good problem to have :) both are fantastic schools- likely will come down to personal preference

Both fall. No requests for expedited decisions. I got back responses within a week of interview for both schools.

Timeline of my Kellogg and Booth application process below:

I submitted my application to Kellogg on June 10th, interviewed on June 23rd, and received a call from admissions notifying me of my acceptance on July 9th.

I submitted my application to Booth on July 1st, interviewed on July 7th, and received a call from admissions notifying me of my acceptance on July 10th. I got an email on July 15th notifying me that I had been awarded a merit-based scholarship.

Coming into the process, Booth was my priority target school. Their emphasis on data driven decision making and their strength in finance and consulting were big draws. Also, on more of a light-hearted note, I attended KU for my undergrad, so I'm very familiar with David Booth and his donations to both KU Athletics and Chicago Booth. Throughout the process though, Kellogg began to impress me more and more. I really enjoyed my conversations with the current and former students I spoke with, and they made it a point to stay in constant communication with me throughout the application process. This was in contrast to Booth, who I didn't hear much from unless I reached out to them directly. I also appreciated how accommodating Kellogg was of all the COVID disruption throughout the application process, especially their GMAT waiver offer. I had been studying for the GMAT from December 2019 through March 2020, with the intention of taking the exam in April 2020, but that was obviously blown up by all the test center closures due to COVID. The Online GMAT didn't seem like a viable alternative at first, because of the restriction on whiteboards, but once they began to allow their use I decided to go ahead and signup for the exam (albeit after pausing my studies for 3+ months, thinking that both schools would be offering waivers). I originally applied to Kellogg with the GMAT waiver, but once I completed the Online GMAT for the Booth application, I contacted the Kellogg admissions committee and had it added to my app.

I still haven't accepted either offer, or put down my deposit, but at this point I'm leaning heavily towards Booth. I've joined both schools admitted student Slack channels, and the students on the Booth channel seem to have more impressive backgrounds (based on what I'm interested in). Booth has also already offered a volunteer consulting opportunity through the Polsky Center, working with small business owners in the Chicago area as they recover from COVID shutdowns, which seems like an awesome opportunity to jump in and get involved. Now that I've been accepted, Booth has definitely ratcheted up their outreach, as several current and former students have reached out to me via email to congratulate me and offered to answer questions.

Ultimately, I know there is no wrong decision. Both are amazing schools, and I'm truly lucky to have the opportunity to attend either. I look forward to getting to know some of you in the future, and good luck to everyone else!

PWittenbach Congrats on your admissions and scholarships. Our timeline for Booth is almost same. How much $ you got for Booth scholarship? I got $15k. Looks like you will ultimately choose Booth.

It seems that Booth is much quicker in terms of getting back to applicants. Has anyone taken the Executive Assessment instead of the GMAT and applied? Considering taking the EA in lieu of the GMAT and applying to Booth as well. Any thoughts/comments from the group would be very helpful and highly appreciated. Thank you!

Yes I did. You need 8+ years experience though, and they look for a 160+ (which is like a 720/730 gmat equivalent). I also took the gmat though and would say EA is slightly easier just because it is shorter, so you need to “focus” for less time and it’s easier to not get drained. The quant also has no geometry but other than that it’s the same test.

Booth offered me a $15k merit-based scholarship, same as you. Not huge in comparison to the total cost of the program, but it should cover 10%, which isn't nothing.

I plan on ultimately accepting the Booth offer, but saying no to a program as amazing as Kellogg isn't easy. The scholarship will definitely help in that regard.

Looks like $15k is a standard scholarship for part-time. I would say go with Booth, in terms of school, Booth is slightly higher ranked than Kellogg, but in terms university, U of Chicago is a tier better than NU. In long terms, brand names and ranks matter more than other things. In addition, you have already earned an extra line in your education part of resume: merit-based scholarship from Booth.

Worrying about reputations/ranking in my opinion is pointless as both schools are in the top 5 and will unlock doors for you.

You should focus on which school is the better fit culturally, financially, and for your career goals. I'm leaning Kellogg as it has a superior network, collaborative learning environment (key for me as I'm looking to go into management within my industry), and logistically convenient.

Ranking is definitely lead by Booth and U of Chicago, in terms of what you said about network, Kellogg is slightly better than Booth, but both have extensive network. For collaborative environment, Kellogg wins without any doubt.

What rankings are you looking at? Sure as a whole Chicago is a better University but that's a weird way to look at it. Both school's business programs are the same rank for 2021.

I got it from wiki, they have rankings from variety of sources. Booth's worldwide average ranking is 6.17 compared to Kellogg's 8.5, Booth's US average ranking is 3.5 compared to Kellogg's 7.25. And Booth took crowns in both Forbes and Economist rankings.
