As dietitian for this 300-person school, I am concerned about the sudden shortage of beef.It seems that we will have to begin to serve fish as our main source of protein. Even though beef costs more per pound than fish, I expect that the price I pay for protein will rise if I continue to serve the same amount of protein using fish as I did with beef.
Stimulus: The stimulus states that there is a shortage of beef and because of which as a source of protein the dietitian will have to feed the fish. Fish is not as expensive as beef but if the dietitian starts serving fish the cost to serve the same amount of protein as with beef will increase. It means that though fish is cheaper than beef the protein content equivalent is low and because of which more fish will have to be purchased to equalize the protein content.
eg 1 pound of fish costs 10 dollars and gives a protein equivalent of 50 gms
1 pound of beef costs 15 dollars and protein equivalent is 100 gms
So to serve the same amount of protein the dietitian will have to buy 2 pounds of fish which will cost 20 dollars for a meal instead of 15 dollars for beef.
