It cannot lead to an increase viewership.

Promotional bonuses does not says ' promotional bonuses will be givin when loyal viewers recommend MeTube video to others who are not watching MeTube video '.

We have to choose only 1 stratagy and toss out others.

According to a passage,  there are 2 problems

1. not many people are even aware of MeTube Productions' existence.

2. Most actually  imagine their videos to be just like the many thousands of other video  production companies out there without something unique that makes them different and worthy to pay attention to.

2 possible competing solution.

1. Offer promotional bonuses to reward viewers who have been loyal viewers of the company's videos.(problem not solve)

2. Mount an  internet-wide advertising(problem #1 solve)   campaign emphasizing the minimal banner advertisement and entertainment value of MeTube Production's hilarious news videos. ( MeTube videos are not like other video.   problem #2 solve)

by choosing solution #2, we can solve both 2 problems.

Can you please explain why   "Expand video content to include talk shows, skits, and documentaries"   would be wrong to increase viewership? My reasoning is it would lead to an increase in viewers by expanding the coverage of the channel. Is it wrong because I made an unwarranted assumption that there is already a good viewer market in category of talks shows, skits, and documentaries?

You caught your own faulty reasoning! In order to know that "including talk shows, skits, and documentaries" would help, you'd have to know something about the popularity of those things OR the argument would have to say something about how people would increase viewership if the diversity of programming increased. In the absence of any of that, we have no clue how the inclusion of these types of programs would impact viewership!

The issue with "expanding video content" is that it  assumes  new formats like talk shows or documentaries will attract more viewers, without evidence, But the  real problem  is lack of awareness.

The better choice is the internet-wide ad campaign, which directly addresses that by promoting MeTube’s unique strengths. So yes, your assumption about viewer interest in new formats is what weakens the option.

My only contention/question is that while this option "Return spending on special effects and video editing services to levels of several years ago." makes sense, the QS asks for "in the absence of other alternatives mentioned", doesn't that mean we should exclude the existing alternatives mentioned in the Question? And hence, we can't really comment on the spendings in the last 5 years, as that was one of the strategies adopted in the last 5 years.
