Great summary and well put JohnnyBlaze!

I agree with everything you said. just one clarification that it is a 1-Year degree from Cornell. I think it is still in Ithaca though. (Only the EMBA is in the NY City campus)

Thanks!
BB.

MIT MSRED

1) Location, we're going into a recession and firms are more likely to hire from top local schools (Boston) than travel up to Ithaca for schools slightly weaker in pedigree.

2) Degree type, the MIT MSRED will get you to your real estate goal, that's the point of the program. Cornell's 1 year MBA with a RE class or two won't compare. When you're recruiting, your competition is going to be better prepared at the MIT MSRED type programs VS Cornell 1 year MBA. Your competition isn't just your classmates, but all graduating students. Those MSRED applicants are going to run circles around you the Cornell 1yrs in RE interviews.

3) Your past degrees, you have an MBA already, how are you going to spin going to Cornell for a 2nd MBA? The more explaining on your CV, the harder it is to get a great job. Recruiters want 'easy hires,' esp in a recession they can plug and play.

4) Classmates, MIT MSRED will allow you to study with classmates going for the same field. You will be prepping together & in the job recruiting scene together. Cornell's 1 year program is a collection of ppl (mostly int'ls) from diverse backgrounds that's not well integrated w/ the full time 2 year program. Who is going to help you prep for jobs?? You would be 100% on your own.

5) Professors, MIT MSRED will give you better chances to network w/ professors that have contacts in the industry. Given Cornell's Ithaca location & you're looking at their 1 yr MBA program, their RE network is less expansive.

Congrats on your admits!

Does the MIT degree come with a STEM certification?

PS. I agree with you that if you have one MBA already, getting a specialize degree seems like the right thing to do.

As of now the MSRED is not STEM certified but the school is working on getting it.

Got it. Even if not and some time down the road you need to be in Asia, the MIT name will be enough to get you an interview.

My biggest concern about masters degrees, is recruiting. Do they have a process and do you fit into that process as somebody who is more experienced? As long as you don’t have concerns or issues with that, I think I MIT looks very attractive.

bb the recruitment process is pretty organized with opportunity for two internships one in winters of 1.5 months and another in summer of 3 months. The batch size is small around 25-30. Plus you have the options to take classes across Sloan and Harvard. So some recruitment can also be done jointly with Sloan students who are interested in RE.

That sounds pretty sweet! Awesome!
You found a great "little" program it seems. I also bet the size and prestige makes the alum network pretty tight. With just 30 people a year, nobody gets bombarded with emails and when one gets one, they know there are not that many people to help. Thanks for sharing about this program. I did not know it existed. Congrats!

Hey Himtanshu, how are you? So what did you choose finally?
I'm Shubham Jain, an architect from India, would be glad if we could connect over LinkedIn and converse about MSRED, this course definitely has my inclination!
