Hi everyone, I gave the GMAT yesterday, my first attempt, and got a 710 (Q50, V37, IR 5). I'm aiming for an M7 B-school, and have a decent profile. I'm from India, and given the demographic, many have suggested trying to get in 740-760 range.
I was disappointed with my scores a bit, as I had scored the following in the 6 official PTs in the last 2 months. 740, 720, 740, 720, 710, 760. Also, I found the IR section to be particularly tougher than expected.
I wanted some advice.
1. Should I cancel the score or keep it? I think I can get around 730 (or more) in the second/third attempt. I have read in the forum elsewhere that it's okay to keep a 700+ score even for M7, but just wanted to know more. Also, if I cancel within 3 days, but again need to reinstate (if I don't score above 710), can I do that?
2. Particularly, I'm slightly worried about the IR score. I hadn't prepared specifically for the IR too much, but had got 8 in most PTs (though I had got a 4 in one as well). I'm not sure how a score of 5 looks on the report, especially for M7 schools, hence my mind is telling me to probably cancel the score (and reinstate later if needed). Can anyone give me advice about this?
3. I was planning to apply in Round 1 to 2-3 M7 schools, I was hoping to get done with GMAT yesterday so I have 40-45 days for R1 deadline. However, now I want to give at least another GMAT attempt. Currently, I'm not living in a GMAT Test Center City and had to travel 6-7 hours to give the GMAT, which was inconvenient. So I was thinking a GMAT Online might be a better option next.
a) Do you think it's okay to shift to GMAT Online right now? I haven't practised yet on the physical whiteboard, and not very sure of the 2-hour straight Q and V sections, but maybe I can get used to it in the next 10 days. Do you think it's going to be a challenge?
b) I am planning to give the GMAT Online in the next 10 days only for 2 reasons. One, I am sort of closer to my peak right now I feel. Two, I want to have at least 30 days for filling at least two R1 application to two schools. Does the strategy sound fine?
c) One of my main concerns. I have heard from many people that the score in the GMAT Online tends to be 10-20 points less than GMAT Test Center scores, for whatever reasons. Is this true and what has been the feedback from those who have already taken?. If that is indeed the case, my intended 730 score might again be a 710.
Any advice is appreciated.
