Kennet covered half of a certain distance at 30 miles per hour and the other half at 50miles per hour and took 4 hours in all. What is the distance covered by Kennet?
A.140miles
B. 150miles
C. 160miles
D. 170miles
E. 180miles
\(\frac{4*30*50}{(30 + 50)}\)

\(=\frac{ 4*1500}{80}\)

\(= 75\)

So, Total distance travelled is 2*75 = 150 miles, Answer must be (B)

Half of a certain distance and other halves of the same distance --> This means that Distance covered is the same. Hence, apply the concept of average speed (harmonic mean)

Average Speed : \(\frac{2 * 3 0* 50 }{ 30 + 50}\)

=> \(\frac{2 * 30 * 50 }{ 80}\) = 37.5

Distance = Speed * Time

Distance = 37.5 * 4 = 150miles

Answer B
