1. Do schools consider your top Quant and Verbal Scores from different exams, or do they only consider your top total score? I plan on taking the exam again regardless, but would at least have some peace of mind if they see the V40 on the first run and Q49 on the second.
I don't think schools do that. They would only look at your single score and the Q/V split on it. Plus you mentioned that you cancelled both scores, so I don't see the point of thinking about it.

2. How to proceed from here? I will admit that my emphasis on verbal practice has declined over the last few weeks (vacation, interviews/pending job offer, etc). Quant practice picked up with new sources/variety, but overall study volume decreased.
Do not do the same things as you were doing before! You will have to look at specific mistakes that you are making. If possible get an ESR for both attempts and see what is going wrong. You will need a structured approach to get to your target score. Figure out the specific areas in verbal that you are weak at. If you've run out of official verbal questions, check out this link. Use GMATClub's search functions and get all official quant questions and practice them as well.

Also aim slightly higher than your target score so that you have a buffer. Plus GMAC admits that your score may differ by +/-20 points from your actual ability, so that is something to bear in mind.

Thank you very much for your response - really appreciate this! Great points and advice.

For this next month of verbal prep, would you recommend focusing more on completing as many OG/Official GMAT verbal questions as possible, or using a structured prep course to review concepts? Or perhaps a 50/50 split of both?

I have definitely improved my accuracy on verbal (especially CR, then SC) from practicing/reviewing OG questions, but I am not sure if there is a limit to such improvements from OG question review. With that being said, I have only looked at the General Official Guide questions only once. Is there utility in completing the same questions a second time?

The answer to your question lies in the kind of mistakes you are currently making. Do you have an error log? If yes, figure out specific topics that you are weak at. Use that information to seek out topics that you would want to focus on in either books or in a prep course. You should follow this approach to save time.

Hi. It is super common for people who were taken focus heavy on one area go down in another. Schools do not consider a combination score. Sorry but I would use your 710. I think it’s perfectly respectable.
