The parks department of a certain city administered a survey consisting of 5 yes/no questions. Among the 6,655 completed surveys, there were only 5 distinct patterns in the yes/no responses. For each of these response patterns, the table shows the answers to each of the survey questions for that pattern as well as the number of survey respondents whose completed survey reflected that pattern.

"Yes" responses for Question A
= 2,005 + 120
= 2,125 (Clearly less than 50% of total responses, Majority No)

"Yes" responses for Question C
= 2,005 + 120 + 3,512 + 12
= 5,649 (Clearly more than 50% of total responses, Majority Yes)

"Yes" responses for Question E
= 1,006 + 12
= 1,018 (Clearly less than 50% of total responses, Majority No)

Number of responses against say row 1 are the number of people who answered yes for a, yes for b ..likewise for c d e.
So adding the number of responses for column a for yes gives 2125, where as number of NO is 3512+1006+12 .. which is greater than yes for a.
So majority have said no for question A

For C it's majority Yes
For E , majority No.

Response pattern #3 makes up more than half (3512 out of 6655) the survey responses, so whatever their response was to a given question was also the majority response.

The number of Responses (eg. 2005, 120, etc.) are separately for each answer (yes/no) in each pattern or is it total number of answers against each question in each pattern (like 2005 is total for say "x" answers of question "A" plus say "y" answeres of question "B" etc.)
I assumed it is total. Please explain how can we finalize it in the real GMAT exam in such questions when no clarity in the question?

The data is presented in a weird way, realistically how could number of responses yes for A, B, C, D, and No for E, are all 2005?

It's a response pattern, so that's the way the survey was submitted. 2005 people submitted the survey this way, we then strip the relevant answers from it.

Info to note: 5 yes/no question (a, b, c, d, e)
T=6655
5 distinct pattern (1,2,3,4,5)
Response pattern for each question no. of respondents who marked that question is mentioned.
Question: To find whether majority respond yes or no.
1. Question A: Filter question A to get Yes on top we see 2 yes --> 120 + 2005. This will not be more than half as 1/2*6655 will be 3000 + something.
So Majority answer no.

2. Question C: Repeat above step to filter yes we see 3152 + 2005 +x +y > 1/2 of total or 1/2 of 6655. Hence, majority yes

3. Ques. E: Yes in E gives 1002+12<12/2005. less than half. Hence majority no

 Hence, they are the total of that particular pattern.
