I prepared well for close to 6 months. Following are my scores from GMATPrep Mocks:
1. GMATPREP1: November 7 - 640 (Q48, V31)
- Went in without a pacing strategy. No problem with timing. Finished both sections with a minute to spare.
2. GMATPREP2: December 5 - 680 (Q47, V35)
- Went in without a pacing strategy. No problem with timing. Finished both sections comfortably with a couple of guesses in between.
3. GMATPREP3: Abandoned as I wasn't feeling well.
4. GMATPREP4: December 16 - 700 (Q47, V39)
- Went in without a pacing strategy. Was hurried on the last few questions.
5. GMATPREP5: December 21 - 680 (Q48, V35)
- Went in without a pacing strategy. Struggled for time on both sections and decided to adopt a pacing strategy for next mock.
6. GMATPREP6: December 26 - 650 (Q46, V34)
- Decided to keep track of time by looking at the clock at 3 points in each section. (After Question 8, 15, 25). During my analysis after test I found I did ok overall except on RC on which I answer 8 of the 12 questions wrong. On the contrary, I answered all SC and CR correct except one wrong in each. Quant was lower than earlier as I was hurried for time at the end.
7.
Actual GMAT: December 29 - 620 (Q40, V35)
Ok, now coming to the real deal. I thought I was a good test taker but the exam day pressure seemed too much. I couldn't concentrate on a couple of RCs and lost time as I re-read a few sentences few times. Same with couple of CRs, but I pulled myself up and made up time in between and it reflects in the score I think (V35).
On quant, I lost a minute at the start as I was late coming back from the break (didn't pre-empt the frisking and palm scanning time during my practice). This coupled with a fellow student disturbing the whole room by asking questions to the moderator while in the room gave me a bad start. I tried pulling myself up again, used the noise cancelling headphones and started. Towards the middle of quant I was on track to finish on time. In a couple of questions in the middle, my mind just froze, nevertheless, I kept chugging away on questions and when I looked at the clock next, to my horror it showed 2 minutes left with 8 questions to go. I think I got lost in solving a few questions in between and lost track of time. As expected, I got penalized for guessing last 5 questions and got Q40.
My target is 700+. I plan to give another attempt and have about a month or so to prepare (with regular office work of course), and I know I have the grasp on concepts to make it happen, but don't know where to go from here.
Any help is truly appreciated!
