Hello,
So after months, I took my GMAT exam today. But everything wasn't as smooth as I expected.
When I reached Question number 26th, I didn't have any option on my screen but just the question. I barely had 7 minutes remaining, I clicked on the chat button which responded after 2-3 minutes, and then the proctor re-launched my exam, but when the exam window reappeared, I had only 1:36 time remaining.
I panicked as I didn't expect it, clicked on the chat button again - but during the interaction - I lost those 1:36 minutes, left out my break (30 seconds in which I had to stop the exam), and went 1 minute into verbal when I was asked to continue with the exam.
I continued with the exam - however, I feel my performance would be very bad since I left 5 questions upfront.
On contacting GMAT, they raised a case and asked me to wait for 5 business days, however informed me that the exam was successfully completed.
My question is - what should I expect from here? Will I get another chance (generally what happens?)? I feel sad as I haven't got much time with the R1 deadline approaching in the last week of Jan, and feel like going ahead with whatever score I receive.Hello,
I am so sorry to hear about your experience. I, too, had a similar case but with a slightly different result. After few questions in Quant section, I had a technical issue that was fixed by proctor but I did lose about 3 mins and no one compensated me for it. Good it was in the beginning and I was able to catch my breath, however I did lose some nerves there and took me couple of minutes to calm down. In IR, after submitting q6, the exam went blank. The connection was fine as the box with recording was still on, I hit 'message proctor' button a thousand times maybe if not more and only after around half an hour somebody got back to me. My exam could not be relaunched again no matter how hard the proctor tried, the system simply failed and didnt want to recover. I was given a case number and within 5 business days (no, exactly 5 b-days) I received both my score (why? if exam was voided?) for this one and a voucher for a free retake. I guess I was lucky here since they did not count it as attempt. But those 5 days waiting was terrible. I kept spamming them, literally. I called, wrote emails, chatted many times on mba.com.
My suggestion to you is to take the case to Pearson/GMAC and try to void this attempt as obviosly you were not given a fair chance to finish the exam because of technical failure.
If not, and GMAC is known to make stupid decision despite straight facts, your choice is to retake but as was suggested, if again the system crashes, probably your best bet is to kick router or reload your laptop to get a chance for retake.
I am really sorry for your troubles with gmat online. And I do hope things will work out to your best and someone can knock some sense into GMAC decision makers to be more customer friendly.
