Your chronological age and work experience seem to be on the lower side for an MBA. Are you working currently? You will have 3 years of experience at matriculation based on your target intake year. However, the quality of your experience will matter along with the quantity of your experience. You will have to demonstrate leadership potential and impact you have created.
Currently, you need to focus on achieving a higher GMAT score. Wharton and Stanford are a stretch even for the best profiles. And you may need upwards of 730-740 for some of the schools you are targeting. Your experience in your family business will definitely count as work experience.
Also, you can invest this time in volunteering activities, which align with your values or match your expertise.
Hi,
Nationality: Indian
Age: 23
Gender: Male
In 2016, I graduated high school top of my class with 97% making me All-India subject topper in 2 subjects and State topper in the other subjects. I was the school head boy and organised several events including those for charity. I've represented the school in several State and National events namely Essay Writing, Extempore, Creative Writing etc...
In 2019, I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) with Finance and Investment specialisation with 87%. I was also in the running for batch topper which I lost by a small margin. During college, I organised an International Business Fest which saw great footfall. I have good experience in managing a group of people and handling pressure. I took part in several inter-collegiate business fests as well. Our research paper won the best research work. I took part in a employment drive for the dumb and mute and also interned with an old-age home. I also worked with underprivileged kids while in college. I also headed several events in college apart from all these.
I have internship experience with EY (Finance) and with a top Indian Marketing firm. I took up extra credit courses in the realms of web designing, financial decision making, business psychology and public policy. I was also part of one of the Top 10 teams in India for an Audit Case challenge organised by Deloitte while in college. My work got published in an anthology series.
I worked with Deloitte as an Audit Assistant for a little more than 1 year where I audited the valuations of a renowned private equity client in the US. I have first-hand experience in valuation testing and was lauded for my exceptional work with a Spot Award within 4 months of joining. I have always achieved the highest rung in performance appraisal when compared to my peers and have contributed heavily in the creation of a new workpaper. I took up challenging roles and also helped mediate conversations between the leadership and the staff. I also organised several team building activities and outdoor events. I even received a good sum of reward when separating from work for the exceptional work I did there.
I intend to join my family business and slowly learn the way such businesses and managed. With the MBA I hope to expand my family business and diversify into other sectors.
I gave GMAT and received a 670. I am preparing to improve the score to a 700+
-------------------------------------------------------
This is a brief profile of mine. I was looking for an MBA opportunity with one of the top 25 universities. I understand based on my research that some of them have a minimum work experience of 2-3 years criteria. In that respect I narrowed down to the following universities:
- Wharton
- Stanford
- Columbia Business School
- UCLA
- Yale
- NYU Stern
- Duke Fuqua
What are my chances with these universities? Also does my experience with family business count as work experience? I appreciate any suggestions and recommendations. I would also not mind throwing more light on anything above.
I am looking for 2022 intake.
