I've seen this multiple times now. Debriefs of people who manage a Q50 or Q51 claiming they finished the section with 10 minutes remaining. What tricks or shortcuts are these people using ? Do they not use the whiteboard / notepad ? If so how ??

Honestly I do not know.... and I would not say that's the norm. It usually is not. I got a Q49 and got shot down by a Probability question. I did not have much time leftover. I would say it is definitely not the norm to have that level of performance and scoring Q50+ and have time left over.
However, it is possible if you have majored in Math or Physics for your undergrad. As long as you spent 10,000 hours solving math questions, you likely have sped up your math skills. For the rest of us, I have put this list of shortcuts to memorize (not formulas really) to help with time management.

Probably likely that such people start off with a very high Q-ability beforehand.
