My enhanced GMAT Online was scheduled for 12th June, 2021, at 8:30 AM IST. I logged in at 8:15 AM and was connected to my proctor in five minutes. The proctor was very patient and understanding. She asked me to show my room and ID. After that, she tried launching the exam. The proctor needs to enter an access code to launch the exam. She entered the code but the system said the code was invalid. Few more people joined the zoom meeting and it took them nearly 90 mins to start the exam. All this while, I was patiently waiting.
Once the exam started, within 5 minutes, the proctor said that she can't see my screen. She asked me to share my screen but I was unable to do anything as the secured browser doesn't let you do anything on the computer. She asked me to force shut my laptop. I did. I logged in again. Connected to the proctor again. She tried launching the exam again. Invalid access code. Cycle continued. I was reconnected to my exam after half an hour. Then it went very smoothly for a while. I was on my 23rd question. 17 minutes were left. Proctor paused my exam saying she couldn't watch me properly. She wanted to check my internet speed. There was no way to minimize or close the browser. Shut the computer. Logged in. Contacted the proctor. Showed the speed test.
Long story short, this time, when they launched the exam after several attempts, the browser kept on loading. She said the only way out was to reschedule the exam. How? She didn't know, neither do I know. She asked me to shut down the computer. I did. She had forgotten to undo changes that she had made on my system when she took control, so it took me additional 2 hours to fix as I am not very good with computers.
My question is, what next? I have written GMAC an e-mail. Will they help me reschedule or give me a refund or should I just forget about the money and book another appointment for test center exam? If you have gone through something similar, PLEASE help me out. Because I don't know what to do now. I have NEVER in my life felt so helpless and powerless. It was by far the most traumatizing exam taking experience I have ever had.
(For those of you who are thinking of taking the online GMAT. Trust the reviews, both the positive and the negative ones. But don't trust the program they are using. The secured browser is impractical for human use. It doesn't consider human errors and lapses. Otherwise why would they not make it possible, in some way, to minor issues? The test is designed for ideal scenario. There's no room for an error. Maybe they don't give a damn or maybe people who designed the thing have never met another human being in their lives. Because if they had, they would have known that you have to consider not so ideal situations when you plan things.
I had taken the GMAT online conducted by Pearson. They had an option for emergencies such as this. Anyway. Thank you)
