How to improve my GMAT Score from 680 to 730

Hello,

I'm posting in the right forum

I took my official GMAT practice exam 1 today one week back and scored 680 (Q-48 ; V-35) IR : 5

I prepared Verbal using Kaplan & OG Book so far and have not started preparation for Quant / Integrated Reasoning yet. Before I started my GMAT preparation, I scored 660.

With 1 MONTH TO GO and TARGET of 730-740 score, how can I improve my GMAT score? Could you please suggest me structured approach to nail the perfect score in Quant and Improve my Verbal score by 4-5 points? Is this goal too far off?

For quant, drive your quant score higher by mastering one weaker topic at a time.

For each topic, first make sure that fully understand all aspects of the topic. Then answer dozens of practice questions involving that topic until you basically can't get them wrong.

As you master each quant topic, you'll come closer and closer to mastering the entire quant section and scoring Q51.

Manhattan prep strategy guides are good tools to boost up scores, so consider going through them. I also bought Kaplan books, and I think they do not cover all the concepts required for the test.

You can surely increase your score. You just need to follow a proper study plan.

Hi Akimbo,

A 680 is a strong initial CAT Score, but since it is your only CAT result so far, it's not clear yet whether this is an accurate reflection of your current 'ability level' (since you may have gotten a bit lucky or unlucky during this practice CAT). Before we can define what you'll need to work on to pick up the additional points that you are after, we'll need to define your studies in more detail.

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) Have you used any other study materials besides the books that you listed?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

2) Have you used any other study materials besides the books that you listed? No
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to? This fall R1/R2

I'm looking for two kinds of self-study resources rather than tutoring.
Any books on Verbal would be helpful.
Also looking for practice CAT tests - thinking to go for GMAT OG Online Question bank 1 - Are there any other better resources?

Hi Akimbo,

Just to clarify - are you studying 5-6 hours a WEEK? If that's the case, then that has not been that much studying so far - and you will likely need to increase your study time an additional 10 hours or so each week (at the minimum) to hit your Score Goal in the timeframe that you have described. Conversely, if you've been studying 5-6 a DAY, then that's actually too much (and you would run the risk of 'burning out' before Test Day if you continued to study at that rate for too long).

1) Are you planning to take the At-home GMAT or are you planning to take your GMAT at a Test Facility?
2) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?
3) What specific application deadlines are you facing?
