Let a and b be the two digits.
10a+b+54 = 10b+a
and
a+b=8
Now You have two equations and two variables. Just solve for one to find the other.

two things to look out for:(1) both digits add to 8 & (2) the reverse of the digits is an increase in value by 54.
there are only 4 pairs of digits that add up to 8: (1,7), (2,6), (3,5), (4,4).
so our four potential numbers are: 17, 26, 35, 44. Now lets see what the increased value is when the digits are reversed.
17 ... 71. increase by 54. - (A) the correct answer.
26 ... 62. increase by 36.
35 ... 53. increase by 18.
44 ... 44. increase by 0.
