Let total students = x
Science \(= \frac{x}{3} + 40\)
Physics \(= \frac{1}{4} (\frac{x}{3} + 40)\)
Physics students are \(\frac{1}{8}\) th of total students; so setting up the equation
\(\frac{1}{4} (\frac{x}{3} + 40) = \frac{x}{8}\)
x = 240
Answer = A

science = 1/3x+40
physics = 1/12 x+10= 1/8x
x+120 = 3/2x thus 0.5 x = 120 thus x = 240
science = 1/3x+40
physics = 1/12 x+10= 1/8x
x+120 = 3/2x thus 0.5 x = 120 thus x = 240
