My answer is (B) . It took me 01:30. (A) Started off with (A) and stopped right after "as" because, for comparison used with "a much larger amount of water“, "than" is needed. "as" should be used in "as ... as" structure. It turns out that (BCDE) all uses "than". (B) Seems good. "does" in "using a machine does" means "uses". (C) The only difference with (B) is the missing "does". Is it a fatal error? If there is no ambiguity, "does" may be omitted. In this version, there is no clear ambiguity

. Still, some readers may interpret the sentence to mean "washing dishes by hand uses more water than machine". Still prefers B to C. (D) Lack of parallelism: use electricity, require maintenance , and large spaces . (E) Lack of parallelism: require maintenance , electrical , and take up space
