MBA or MS at 38 years of age, Suitable or not

Question

Hi All,

I am a 36 yr old guy from India working in an Indian MNC in Mid to senior level position with 10+years of experience. I am planning to give my GMAT in April, 2022 and then looking for a 1 year MS programme in business administration or 1 year MBA from the IVY leagues.

Please let me know if i at 37-38 years of age would be a suitable fit for the above programme.

Hello and welcome to GMAT Club!

At your experience level, you are only really a candidate for the EMBA programs or PT programs. FT MBA is going to be very tough with this much experience. They don't know what to do with more experienced applicants...

I agree. It's going to be a real stretch to get into those programs. The average age is usually around the mid-20s. While there are exceptions all the time, it's very rare to see people who are older than 35 in these classes. The experiences, lessons learned, culture, etc. make it so it's not an appropriate fit.

Opt for the EMBA or PT programs instead. You will not only have a better chance of getting in but also benefit more from that experience.

It’s true that you are never too old for more education, but there are several things to consider when preparing an MBA application for senior candidates. While schools peruse thousands of individual applications, they also have their statistics to consider. Review your profile to determine how YOU can help boost these statistics, and be sure to highlight these points. You should probably consider programs like Stanford Msx, MIT Sloan Fellows, USC IBEAR, Foster GEMBA and LBS Sloan program.
