Hi, I've just finished my first Gmat exam and I scored 640 (Q47 V31 IR8). When I saw the score I was pretty surprised tbh because I felt that the exam was going well.
I have been studying for 2 month with an average of 15 hours of study per week. I've studied from Manhattan prep. guides and from official gmat 2020 book.
This is the list of all the simulation test I took since I started studying:
10/10/2021 MGMAT1 670 (Q46 V35 IR8)
16/10/2021 Official Practice1 770 (Q51 V44 IR8)
17/10/2021 MGMAT2 640 (Q46 V32 IR6,6)
23/10/2021 MGMAT3 710 (Q45 V41 IR5,9)
24/10/2021 MGMAT4 710 (Q47 V40 IR5,9)
30/10/2021 MGMAT5 670 (Q44 V37 IR4,5)
31/10/2021 Official Practice2 700 (Q49 V36 IR8)

I'm going to try again on the 17th of November but I need some advice in order to improve my verbal score. Thanks for the help.

Hi Carlman,
Assuming you're targeting a score above 700 (you didn't mention a target score), it probably makes sense to look at an improvement in both your quant and verbal score. For top schools, you want your Q score closer to 50 with your verbal into the high 30s at least. Given your short timeline, overweighting verbal improvement to get the full score jump is a riskier strategy.
Score drop offs (from practice test to real GMAT) are usually the result of Test Taking Skill gaps rather than concept gaps.
Remember, test day is different. Your mind is more distracted by additional pressures -- 1) more people waiting for your score (family, partner, friends, colleagues etc 2) different environment (test center) 3) unusual proctor conditions (online version) 4) the reality of the score actually counting (unlike practice tests) 5) upcoming deadlines (no more chances).
All those things distract your brain on test day -- think of it as half your brain being unavailable. You can do all the affirmations and self calming talk you want but you have to take the test with a partially distracted mind. The key is solid Test Taking Skills to shorter the path to the right answer and avoid pressure errors like missed info in the question, "silly" errors, trap answers, losing track of timing.
Developing "consistent" steps for EVERY question in Quant and Verbal question is the foundation of resilience in test conditions. We test your Test Taking Skills in a live coached practice test environment in a FREE Diagnostic session. The more than 20 metrics we use to assess your process on each question will identify exactly where you're falling short and creating the conditions for a score drop. The result will be a much more focused prep plan for your remaining 2 week to your retake date.
