Both with V39 and V38, I had Q50 and my score was 720. Yes, I was especially surprised with Q50 V39 and 720. Since, I'm from over-represented pool I need atleast 740.

Abhishekgmat87
I guess you would have already scored 730-740 in GMAT as you were getting V38 and V39 and as mentioned your quant is strong

Any additional strategies/thoughts are welcome :)

Working on Solving Approach can be helpful to break V40+, if you already have strong fundamentals (around the V38 mark). There's a popular course I offer that does it, but the main point is to consider that going forward in your prep. In the same way Quant can be made easier in how you tackle a question, Verbal can be done more efficiently, too.

All the best.

Linking a past Verbal student who took some solving approach tutoring with me. They went from an Official V31 to V40, but there may be some helpful insight you can take:

I used both TTP and egmat and found the first one better for verbal.

Good Luck!

Hi, Need750
You can see free trial version of both egmat & ttp. I vote for TTP.

Best of Luck!

I've exhausted OG, official practice questions, 6 official mocks and SC 1000.

I need atleast V42, following are the details about my Prep till now.

I've given GMAT 4 times.

GMAT #1: V39
- Used entire OG + 6 official mocks. Read Manhatten SC; Watched entire gmatninja 's video series. Scored between V40 and V42 in all the mocks.

GMAT #2: V27
- Had re-done OG + 10 LSAT RC section (Accuracy ~80%) + the 2 official practice question (Did only medium and hard questions - Accuracy ~80%)
- While giving the test, I did feel questions were tougher and I actually thought that I would score above 40. But was extremely wrong.

GMAT #3: V38
- After last GMAT, immediately booked another test but wasn't able to take it as test centers kept on closing due to COVID. So, I had decided to use my score from 1st GMAT for R1 applications. 1 week before R1 applications deadlines, I saw the slots opening up for test center. I was unprepared for ~2 months. Gave this one with ~3 days of prep (mostly revision).

GMAT#4: V35
- For this one, I did entire 1000 series SC. Also, solved 6 LSAT RC section (Accuracy ~85%; I was actually happy that my accuracy had increased since last time). Additionally, easy questions from both official practice questions. It was more than 8 months since my 1st GMAT attempt so did the reset for official mocks. I scored between V42 and V49 for official mock retakes (In each of the mocks, there were 1 or 2 questions that I remembered seeing).
- Again, while giving this one too, I felt questions were much tougher and thought would score above V40

After GMAT#4, I purchased ESR for GMAT 2 and GMAT 3 (rest were online, so I couldn't). Actually, inspite of V27, the average difficulty of correct questions was more than it was for GMAT#3. It looks like I had made mistakes in easy questions. Additionally, I got 4 questions wrong in the 1st ten for GMAT#2. My guess is something similar happened for GMAT#4, despite the fact that while giving GMAT#4, I was very certain about the answers during the 1st 18 questions.

Anyway, thinking about using TTP or egmat verbal before my last attempt. Any advice on which one would be better.

I usually study very longs hours but for fewer days.

For GMAT#1, had prepared in 30 days (averaging 4-5 hours per day). Same for GMAT#2. For GMAT#4, prepared for 15 days (averaging 6 hours per day). For my last attempt, I do have slightly less than a month. And yes, for any question that I did wrong, I used to read the entire discussion thread in gmatclub and other courses for that respective question.

I didn't have to prepare for quant as I've a strong quant background. I'm a non-native speaker but English is my second language and was the medium of instruction during my school/college etc.

I'm also considering giving GRE instead. As per my research, I would need 330+. I gave a mock (without prep) and scored 317. I got 20 wrong in verbal, 10 in each section section. And almost all of them were related to vocabulary questions, in which I didn't know the meaning of words. I'm not really sure if I can improved my vocab that much in 3.5 weeks but I'm open to advice on that part/feasibility of this plan too.

Any additional strategies/thoughts are welcome :)

Hi Need750,

Your Verbal score suggests that you are good enough with two of the three modules (SC, CR and RC) and need to work on the other one. You should consider identifying the weaker module, analyze your setbacks and turn them into your strengths.

Let me tell you that the improvement to V40+ is all about identifying the core pain points not only from a conceptual standpoint but also from a methodical standpoint. Let me elaborate.

You're probably doing decently well on the easy and medium questions but when it comes to hard questions the issues start surfacing. What it means is that the methods that you might be using are not efficient. There is a need to improve the methodology and focus on logic. Using the right methodologies and strategies to approach the Verbal questions should ideally help you to avoid the traps set by the test makers. If you do so, it is possible to improve your score to V40+ and push your overall score as well.

The right methods for SC is meaning based approach (not splits), CR is framework driven pre-thinking and RC is involving yourself in understand why the various parts of the passage is written and not just what is written.

In short, if you work slowly on your approach and focus on learning from each question you should see a significant improvement in your score.

If you are struggling with some specific topics, you may share the same for better understanding and I can help you out with your worries.

Here's how Rishabh Iyer's improved from V33 to V41 in 20 days despite a demanding 60 hour work week:

Having said this, I would like to know what is the approach you followed during the test along with a few other things (including your exact pain points) so that I can suggest you a more structured plan and help you with advanced strategies as you would not have much time to spare now. It would be great if we have your ESR available at the time of discussion. If you wish to discuss this over a call, you can schedule a free consultation call using the below link. Considering the effort, you have put, I would really like to know the concerns and help you improve your score.
