There is no need to calculate the number of days they did nothing because the 24 idle mornings and 12 idle evenings include the days they did nothing.
Let the total number of vacation days be 'x'. Then:
Total number of days they played tennis = x-12 and the total number of days they did yoga = x-24. Therefore the total number of days they were involved in one or the other of the two activities is (x-12) + (x-24) = 2x-36 which is equal to 22. Therefore:
2x-36= 22...> x= 29.

Let's say they spent N days in ttl in their grandparents place, they played tennis for X mornings, yoga for Y evenings,

Accordingly X+Y=22, N-12=X and N-24=Y, so 2N-36=X+Y, so N=29­
