Fordham $50k scholarship vs Babson $20k scholarship

Question

Hi fellow Gmatclubbers,

I have received admit from above mentioned programs. Can someone suggest how can I negotiate for more scholarship with babson and also which one should I choose? Post-MBA I’m looking to venture into Tech Industry in Operations or PM Role.

Hi. Congratulations on your admits. I am moving your question into a better sub forum 😎

When you go past top 30, the differences and choice becomes subtle and fairly minor. Seeing that you’ve received quite a bit more aid from one of the programs, I would lean towards Fordham.

I would also look at the class-size and get a sense of your classmates. I believe a year or two ago Babson had 80% international students. That’s highly unusual and I probably not the most ideal business school experience in the United States. I will get a sense of what the future class is. It’s not healthy to have more than 50 or really 40% international students in a US BSchool.

I wanted to know if a university is ranked better in national university ranking on us news( say 35) but MBA program(say 71) is not highly ranked, how does this affect overall perception of the MBA program to recruiters in the States.

I mean it is better than having an unknown brand. If a person hiring you or someone you’re talking to is not a aware of business schools, it helps for them to know the name and be aware of it. At the same time it won’t be helpful with on campus recruiting. Neither of these programs will be able to bring meaningful on campus recruiting opportunities, especially for international students which is totally fine. A lot of people recruit off campus even in big and well-known programs.

It helps to have a good brand on your résumé when you recruit. Otherwise if you have a not all known business school and you don’t have any other well-known brands, it makes employers wonder and they don’t know where to place you.

Hi bb,

I am in a similar position but I have received a $50,000 scholarship from both Fordham & Babson. So which should I pick?
My main criteria is to get a good job, post my 2 year MBA, in the financial services industry.

Fordham in NY has the NY advantage but Babson is also close to Boston.
Rankings as per US news are almost similar.

And I understand that as an international student I will have to work hard any which way for a good job irrespective of the college. And both the schools have STEM programs which is an important thing.
Opportunities and demand will also be almost at par is what I think, correct me if I'm wrong.

So given this scenario how should I go about deciding between the two?

To update on this Forum, I received admits from UCI Merage, U Maryland and Texas A&M Mays MBA in R2 and eventually after speaking to current students ended up joining Texas A&M Mays MBA. Absolutely enjoyed the first Semester. Amazing curriculum, professors and cohort. Very close knit group. I also landed a Product Marketing Summer Internship at a Fortune 30 about a month ago and still have 2-3 interviews coming up in January. Overall quite happy with my decision.
