3 ingredients is misleading - Not mentioned that same ingredient can be used multiple times.

Generally in food 3 ingredients means 3 different items

I solved it using combination -

Total possible outcome = 9C3
Favourable outcome (one where sorbet is included ) = 8C2 x 1C1
therefore, Required fraction = 8C2 x 1C1 / 9C3 = 1/3 Ans

Hope this helps!

it will be same as finding probability of P(SCC)= Probability of getting a sorbet* probablity of getting a cookie* probablity of getting a second cookie*number of ways of arranging SCC

= (1/9)*(8/8)*(7/7)*(3!/2!) = 3/9= 1/3

Chef Gundy is creating a new dessert that will be made from 3 ingredients. If he has 8 cookies and one flavor of sorbet to choose from, what fraction of the possible arrangements will contain the sorbet?

(A) 1/84
(B) 1/56
(C) 1/9
(D) 1/3
(E) 2/3

Contain the sorbet,

Not contain the sorbet.

1- 8C3/ 9 C3 = 1 - 2/3 = 1/3

Please kudos if liked the solution
