Hello everyone, I was invited to the interview for the MIM 2023 at ESMT Berlin.
I have some question about this university and I wonder if someone could give me an honest opinion about it. It is not my first choice, but I don’t want to pay the deposit if the school is not good and I don’t definitely want to get a loan to stay unemployed or at minimum wage.
MAIN DOUBTS:
- Placement statistics are good, but I’ve heard really bad reviews about career service (there is a real roast one here on gmat club).
- Even though the the school is #1 BS in Germany, it was founded recently, in 2002. I don’t know if this lack of “school’s history” may affect negatively the overall profile, especially since many current employers may don’t even know ESMT at all.
- Since it is a recent school, I fell like it is a sort of gamble. It can scale rankings and become more “prestigious” in the following years, but it can not. The fact that I’m going to attend a MIM means that I’m (probably) selecting my main degree’s school for the rest of my life. The fact that the school is not in a stable position really worries me, since I’m going to pay 50k € of loan.
- I’ve heard that, even though the school was founded by 25 huge companies, they don’t actually recruit directly from ESMT. So this “badge” is basically useless. Any information about that?
- Average GMAT is 640. If the school is so good and the average salary is not so distant from great schools, such as HEC Paris, why there is not much competition?
- I’ve herd that it is tough to find a job if you are not fluent in German. I’m really good at learning new languages, but I think that this can be a major problem. It is not easy to learn German in 2 years.
Do you have information or opinions about ESMT? I really like the program, but I’m just worried of losing money and possible better opportunities (such as RSM MIM)
