Let the tens and the unit digit of Mr.'s age be x and y respectively.

Mr.'s age=10x+y
Mrs' age=x+10y

1/11 of the sum of their ages is equal to the difference between their ages
Therefore,
(10x+y+x+10y)/11=10x+y-(x+10y)
x+y=9x-9y
8x=10y
y/x=4/5

Since Mr is older, he is 54 years old and his wife is 45 years old
Difference=9

There is no need to even calculate the Solution....
Whenever you reverse a number, the difference will always be 9 or a multiple of 9.
Eg: 53 --> 35. Now Difference is 18 (A multiple of 9)
