A is missing a SV pair in its first clause.
D,E has idiom error - it should be legend has it.

Between B,C : in B, it seems the "it" is ambiguous. C clearly states why he poisoned himself.

OA says the answer is C.

why is there comma after "The first Western cookbook," in that option then?
