In this case: X and Y are clauses.
Idiom: Think of A as B
Moving from A to E:
A: Idiom error
B: Intended meaning of the sentence is changed.
C: Seems okay
D: Don't need a being here, C seems better.
E: "Was thought by many" is a passive construction, and we don't necessarily need it, C seems better.
While and although, both could be used to contrast and therefore don't provide the spilt necessary for elimination for me. Experts, could you pls correct if I a wrong.
