Hi san10789,

We last discussed your studies almost 2 months ago, so I'd like to know a bit more about how you have been studying since then:

1) Over the last 2 months, how many hours did you typically study each week?
2) Have you used any additional courses/books/etc besides the original course you used?
3) Over the last 2 months, on what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) Are you still planning to apply to School this cycle (either Round 1 or Round 2)?

Since you took your 2nd Official GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Hi All,

Gave my GMAT 2 - 640 - Q47 , V31. Serious preparation done - last 2 months (July and August). I was in touch (May and June).
I had taken a GMAT earlier in October last year(did not prepare as per the standards).

I never scored this low in any Quant before. My previous GMAT 600 was Q49, V23 . Scored Q48 in GMAT Club test.
The purpose of writing this is for people who are working to improve their verbal scores.(Also recording my experience )
Do not let Quant slip away. If it's your strong area, then make sure it is reflected in the score.

What happened to me was :
I took Verbal first. After the first break (8 min), I was still looking at my rough sheet work that I did in verbal.
So, yes when I started with Quant I was thinking about my Verbal part.(I already read it many times that I should not do this)
On a simple question , I spent too much time recalculating my answers by different methods to make sure it was correct.
On other interesting question , I just forgot i am at the Test center, writing the exam, and took more than 5 mins to answer.
My 15th question was very difficult( I have not seen anything like this before). But after that, things became pretty easy and I started panicking that I was making mistakes. I had to rush for the last 10 questions. I could have done better.

Verbal - My main focus was to complete all 36 questions as the penalty is there for not completing all.
So I rushed after the first 20 questions ( 30 min left ) and definitely made mistakes.
I got 3 Short and 1 Long RC.
Long RC was very easy(may be because of my previous performance) - I read it in less than 2 min (time pressure ) and was able to get answers. For Last RC(7 min with 8 Questions left) , I just went directly for questions.

Looking for advice.(not for any course)
Target - 700 Only.

Wish you guys all the Best!!

You already have identified few of your mistakes. Time management is a big concern. Since your verbal score is very less you may need to approach verbal part one section at a time(RC, SC, CR) . Revisits the basics. Without the basics it is very difficult to improve the score. Once the basics are done. Start practicing question (Move from easy to medium and then to hard). You may start solving in a untimed environment, start timed practice after your accuracy reaches 60-80 percent in untimed practice. Even if you concentrate on easy to medium level questions and try to improve your accuracy (90%) in timed environment, you can hope to score in mid 30s in verbal.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks & Regards,
DK

Hi EMPOWERgmatRichC

Thank you!! How are you ?
PFA ESR report. I was reluctant to buy it first, but at last I thought I need to understand where I am lacking.
I could not understand it much. I will appreciate if you can take time and go through the ESR.

Also, Kindly find my answers in line.

1) Over the last 2 months, how many hours did you typically study each week?
July was - 1 2 hrs daily - mostly solving questions from GMAT club.
August - I fixed my appointment on 5th Aug for 31st Aug. As I wanted to go for R2.
I focused on OG questions only. average 3 4 hrs day . ( 4 to 5 days I could not sit to study)

2) Have you used any additional courses/books/etc besides the original course you used?
NA

3) Over the last 2 months, on what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
I took on starting from 14th Aug, 21st Aug, 25th Aug, 28th Aug. 650 Avg.
I realized I am doing very poorly on RC.

4) Are you still planning to apply to School this cycle (either Round 1 or Round 2)?
Now looking to push the GMAT score to 700.
