My answer is (C). It took me 59 seconds.
The use of "due to changes in lifestyle and recreational activities" is generally frowned upon by most GMAT test writers, who rightly consider "due” an adjective.
(A) What is the antecedent of "it"? Might be "the population" or "the United States"? It is not clear.
While the ambiguity of a pronoun is not an absolute reason to eliminate an answer, the confusion here is real.
(B) What is the antecedent of "it"? "changes" or "activities"? Neither make much sense. (And there is real ambiguity)
(C) Avoids pronoun ambiguity.
Take note of "more than any other nation in the world" for proper Apple-vs-Apple comparison.
(CD) can be eliminated for the lack of parallelism with "any other nation in the world"

This isn't a deterministic error so can't eliminate based on i) but ii) is a deterministic error
ii) Idiom: Estimated as usage is incorrect estimated is the correct usage
iii) Redundancy: Probably & estimated imply the same idea
