We agree with the other posts. It's not something upon which you should dwell. The school will "categorize" you using their own rubric. That could work in your favor or against you, but again, it's not something you can change. You are who you are!

The best advice for folks coming from competitive demographics is to focus on what makes them unique through their essays. Think about a particular narrative or lens through which you see the world. Make the case that you are deserving of a seat in their MBA class because your perspective is so valuable and different than anything they have seen. It's a high bar, no doubt, but it's what is expected these days.

Good luck,

Hello,

This might be a foolish question but one that I need to know and cannot find the answer anywhere on the web either.

If I am from India and am an Engineer, but I did my engineering from Australia, then do I count as an Indian engineer (a very overrepresented pool) or an Engineer from Australia

Does it depend on my nationality or where I did my engineering from?

Thanks

You will still be an Indian applicant, but yes, the international exposure is very relevant and should help you in the application. If you have been working abroad after completing your undergrad, then it can make your profile even more desirable.

I'd suggest you don't delve any more into the "buckets", but look for ways you can shine on your own, based on the experiences you have garnered through your personal, academic and professional life.

Thanks for the reply. Although I didn't work there, but working in India since the last 8 years post completing my graduation in Australia (in 2013). Do you think a time gap of 8 years (spent working although) will have any detrimental effect on the international exposure part of my application?

You'll be seen as someone with comprehensive international exposure, a very welcome group at the B-Schools.

Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated

Your international experience will remain what it is and what you make out of it. That means, what did you gain out of it? What valuable lessons did you learn about working with different people, adapting to them, managing different personalities? As 8 years is quite a while ago, it will be relevant to tell how the college experience helped you build these skills for life.

Hello av1901,

Hope this finds you well.

You will be seen as an Indian engineer but the international exposure will have its own positive worth.

Good luck!
