Hi everyone,
I would like to have my profile assessed since I'm unable to narrow down the list of colleges I should be applying to (I know it's pretty late for classes matriculating in 2023). I have currently only applied to Cornell Johnson in round 1, and would like to understand my chances at schools such as M7 schools, NYU stern and Cornell. (would also appreciate if there are any other colleges that are a good fit for my profile)
Brief of my profile -
GMAT - 740 (V42 Q49)
Work experience - 2.5 years in a leading private bank + 2.5 years at Deloitte (risk consulting). I have received fast tracked promotions at both companies. I also had a startup back in college (However I don't count this as professional experience as we were unable to monetize - however, we did generate an active user base of 15,000+ users and had strategic alliances with some big startups - including a unicorn)
Worth mentioning here that there was a gap year between the 2 full time jobs due to the pandemic.
Education
CGPA - 3.50/4.00 - Undergrad from a top college in India - Bachelors in Management Studies
12th - 88.20%
10th - 92.71%
Additional information
I've cleared my CFA level 1, intending on attempting level 2 and level 3 in the next 3-5 years
I recently got certified by PADI as a scuba diver- not sure if this adds any value

Thanks in advance for your time

(PS: I know it will be difficult to provide a shortlist of colleges based on the information provided above since application quality is not reflected here, but I would like a preliminary assessment)
Hi,
your description here is indeed a little less for me to fully analyse your profile. A large component of the work experience is the impact you have created through your work- your $$ achievements and the value you have added to the overall client/ company business. I'd love to know more details on that.
In terms of the number of years/ the type of companies you have worked with- you are pretty much on the right track. The experience working in these roles/companies is valued by b-schools. A deeper analysis of exactly where you should be applying will require more information about your career goals and personal preferences for an MBA.
The entrepreneurial experience is always beneficial- whether you monetized the venture or not, but just for the sheer learning it provides. So, although you can not pass it off as full time work experience, as you were still a college student then, you should nevertheless, mention it on the resume.
Regarding the one year gap- well that's a challenge. Normally, its not advisable to have any gaps on the resume, however, the past two years have been difficult across the world and I should think b-schools will take the same view on it. We have successfully worked with some applicants over the year, who were between jobs when Corona struck and they could not join their new jobs - explaining your situation via the optional essay should be the best way to tackle this. If you were able to do something useful during this period (volunteering/ freelancing/ further study), it should definitely be mentioned. Basically, b-schools do want to see that you were able to learn/grow during periods of adversity, and this can all be fodder for the optional essay.
The scuba diving experience is good!
