Hi guys,
Yesterday I gave my first gmat attempt and scored 610(Q48, V26). My target score is 680-700. I need to achieve my target score at any cost and need your suggestions and help what should I do.
I started preparing in July Mid. My first gmat prep score before starting the studies was 410 then I took eGMAT subscription and completed all the courses. I studied daily for 2-3 hr. I didn't perform very well in e-gmat verbal scholaranium and even after talking to their experts there was not a substantial growth in my performance. Majorly it was the timing issue, which became a factor in my gmat exam too. But i tried my best got familiar with all the concepts practiced a lot and started to get mock score around my target score. My scores were
630 (Q44, V32) eGMAT 9th October
670 (Q45, V36) eGMAT 25th October
640 (Q44, V33) eGMAT 10th Novemeber
680 (Q49, V34) eGMAT 4th December
670 (Q48, V33) eGMAT 5th December
690 (Q49, V35) Gmat prep 1st December
Verbal is my weak part, so my strategy was to get Q49, V34-35. So, after initial two mocks I started working on my quant to get Q49 which i achieved in last 3 my mocks and in exam too Q48 was not bad. But the drop from V35 to V26 is heartbreaking. In exam I got very confused between answer choices in SC, I was not able to prethink in CR and took a lot of time to answer questions. In RC too i spend a good 2-3 min on the passage but still took a lot of time in answering the question like for every question i was reading the whole passage again. I dont why this happened and in the last few ques it was just guessing even in all the mocks i gave last 2-3 ques in verbal was always guessing. I worked really hard. I really need suggestions what should be my approach now. How to improve my timing in verbal. Should i continue with eGMAT or I should try something different. I have no clue. Expert, please help me. I plan to give my exam in Jan last.
Hi
sameep12 I am sorry to hear that you did not score well. I know it must be frustrating to see the score drop in Verbal. But if you commit yourself to improving, you can do this.
I’d like to start by congratulating you on your quant score. It’s not easy to hit a target, but you accomplished that in quant, and that speaks volumes to the effort you put in. Congratulations.
Coming to Verbal, the first step is to identify whether you underperformed on the test day. And from your mock scores it is clear that you have, in fact,
underperformed. We have 6 data points including a GMAT prep mock and 5 Sigma-X mocks clearly indicating that your Verbal ability is around a V34-35. However, as you’ve mentioned, it seems that you do have a timing issue that resulted in a lower score on the test day.
So, one of the clear paths forward is to fix this timing issue.
Please share your ESR with us at [email protected], as it will give us more data points on what went wrong on the test day. If you don’t have your ESR, we can arrange a call with one of our Verbal experts to
diagnose the cause of this drop in your score and the improvement path forward.
Also, please send your e-GMAT id to me via a PM so that I can look into your course data and help you with the next steps.
Above all, please do not lose hope. You can definitely improve your GMAT score.
Here is an example of a student who bounced back after a bad attempt and ended up scoring a 730.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Vaibhav
